This walking tour is a new activity that replaces the traditional elephant riding tours. It offers visitors the chance to observe elephants in their natural forest environment, helping to ensure better welfare for the animals.

Guests will follow a local guide on a light trek into the forest, walking along the paths where elephants roam. From a safe distance, you'll watch the elephants in their natural habitat and learn about their daily behaviors. Along the way, your guide will share fascinating stories about elephants, including their role in local traditions and culture.

In addition to the elephant experience, visitors will also discover the rich biodiversity of the Lak Landscape Protection Forest.

Tour itinerary

Your experience begins with a warm welcome at our Forest Welcome Station, located at National Road 27, Buon Dung Guol, Lien Son Commune, Lak District (just 200m from Lak Pass). Here, you'll complete a brief check-in and receive important safety guidelines.

From the station, guests will be transferred by vehicle approximately 3 km to the forest entrance, along a peaceful concrete road nestled between lush forest and the vast Lak lakeside fields.

At the forest gate, the group will start a 2 km guided walk through gentle hills, forest trails, and elephant tracks—following in the footsteps of the elephants until you reach their natural feeding and social area.

You’ll have time to quietly observe the elephants in their natural habitat, while keeping a respectful distance. Our guide and mahout will share insights into elephant behavior, their role in local culture, and the surrounding forest landscape.

Toward the end of the tour, the group will make its way back out of the forest. Vehicles will be waiting to transfer guests back to the Welcome Station, where the tour concludes.

Tour Itinerary

Before the journey begins, guests will be welcomed at our Rest Stop Station located at National Road 27, Buôn Dơng Guôl, Liên Sơn Commune, Lắk District (about 200 meters from Lắk Pass), where safety instructions and check-in procedures will be carried out.

From there, a vehicle and tour guide will take guests on a 3-kilometer ride to the forest gate, along a concrete road flanked by forest on one side and the vast Lắk Lake rice fields on the other.

At the forest gate, the group will start a 2-kilometer trek over hilly terrain and narrow trails, following elephant tracks deep into the forest until reaching the spot where elephants roam freely in their natural habitat.

Guests will observe the elephants from a safe distance, while listening to the tour guide and mahout share stories about the elephants' behavior, characteristics, and their cultural significance in local traditions. The guide will also introduce the forest’s landscape and biodiversity.

Toward the end of the tour, the group will return to the forest entrance, where the vehicle and guide will take guests back to the Rest Stop Station — marking the end of the program.

This tour combines forest exploration with authentic cultural experiences in local villages. It is also closely linked with elephant-friendly tourism, aiming to support community livelihoods while ensuring better welfare for elephants.

Guests will enjoy a nature walk along a small trail that follows a stream, discover the beautiful Bìm Bịp Waterfall, and take a refreshing break for lunch and swimming at the falls.

After the journey through the forest, visitors return to the village to experience the traditional pottery-making craft of the M’nông people. From there, a boat ride across Lắk Lake will take guests to the wildlife conservation area of Lắk Landscape Forest for a meaningful elephant-friendly tourism experience.

You can also register for the M’nông Gong Music Night Tour, an evening campfire gathering hosted at a local stilt house, where you’ll be immersed in the vibrant gong culture and connect with the local community in a warm, unforgettable atmosphere. 

Tour Itinerary

  • 7:00 AM – Guests arrive at the Forest Management Board office to complete check-in procedures.

  • 7:15 AM – The Forest Management Board’s vehicle takes guests into the forest to the starting point of the excursion.

  • 8:00 AM – After a warm-up and safety briefing, the guide leads the group on a nature walk.

  • 10:00 AM – Arrive at Bìm Bịp Waterfall. Guests can swim, relax, have lunch, and enjoy the natural surroundings.

  • 12:30 PM – Pack up and begin the return hike back to the starting point.

  • 1:00 PM – Visit the traditional pottery workshop of the M’nông people in Buôn Dâng Bắc, Yang Tao commune.

  • 2:00 PM – Take a boat ride across Lắk Lake, heading to the Wildlife Conservation Area managed by the Lắk Historical, Cultural, and Environmental Forest Management Board to experience elephant-friendly tourism.

  • 4:00 PM – The vehicle returns guests to the Forest Management Board office, concluding the tour.

Itinerary

Your guide will take you to visit a local farming family living near the forest. Together, you’ll walk into their coffee garden and help harvest ripe coffee cherries while listening to their heartfelt stories about daily farm life.

Next, you’ll explore the traditional methods of coffee processing and drying. Try your hand at using a wooden mortar and pestle to husk dried beans, then roast them over a cast-iron pan in the farmer’s rustic kitchen.

After roasting and grinding, you'll brew your own cup of phin coffee and savor its rich flavor — the perfect reward for your efforts.

You may also purchase freshly roasted coffee as a meaningful souvenir.
This is an authentic, hands-on experience you shouldn’t miss while visiting Vietnam’s coffee capital — Đắk Lắk.
